My grandparents have been married for
70 years. They're both in their 90's now and considering the change and
struggle the world has seen in that time, it's hard to imagine the life
they've shared. My grandmother Rose was born in Puerto Rico in 1920 but
raised in Spanish Harlem, New York. My grandfather Eugene was born in
1921 and brought up in a strict Irish Catholic family in Hells Kitchen,
New York. Both fell in love during a bygone era that few in my
generation have the appropriate appreciation for. It's a fairy tale
romance that lends authenticity to American classics like Broadway's West Side Story and Ben E. King's Spanish Harlem.
I was recently sorting through old things of theirs and came upon a red
album full of original photographs. Some timeless images of old New
York neighbors, honored wartime buddies, quaint backyard BBQ's, and an
undying love that still burns strong.
Chris Rucker graduated with a degree in sculpture from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, where he also grew up. He's been working in design+building since 1996 in New York City and is currently with the firm AR&DEE located in Brooklyn, NY. Chris lives at an old loft building in chinatown with his Daschund named Wilson and commutes by bike to work daily.

Red is the color of blood, rubies and strawberries. Next to orange, it's at the end of the visible light spectrum. Red is commonly associated with danger, sacrifice, passion, fire, beauty, blood, and anger.
Napkin is a female clothing and accessory entity. An enigma of sorts. The clothing kinda looks like the Breeders album Last Splash sounds. Check NAPKIN for various handmade goodness and BONYPONY for the second-hand goodness you can't locate elsewhere.
Call it whatever genre you want but Burger Records is doing that genre and doin it rather well with some great bands on the label and a sweet record shop serving as the foundation point. The scene they've manged to engage and support is quite thriving with youth and beauty. Noted Yves St Laurent fashion photographer Hedi Slimane, aware of this, headed down to Burger recently and documented a little of the beautiful madness that is Burger Records. Sometimes
you just have to go for it. Innocnts recently rented a small commercial space
here in Silver Lake with full intentions of showcasing art, installation,
music, and retail from identities that resonate with Innocnts. I have
no idea where this goes other than forward. Stay tuned for more details
soon..
Got to hang and talk surf story with Shawn Stussy and Tom Adler a week or so ago. Shawn's been prolifically shaping heaps of new boards at his studio in Montecito. The boards walk a refined line between nostalgia and modernity. If you're ever in the vicinity of Santa Barbara, stop by the S Double shop in the back Richie's Barber Shop and feel up a few boards.

"The series presented here was shot in
Portugal over a 2-year period and represents a transformed landscape
that portrays the existence of Man as a constructive, reconstructive and
contemplative being. The landscape appears completely and irreversibly
transformed and it was this transformation that caught my eye and fueled
my interest in conducting this project, basing it on this very
landscape."
